A chocolate bath & other exciting Valentine's Day ideas

Romantic dining in a restaurant? Lovely, but not very original. Looking for a way to make Valentine’s Day truly unforgettable this year? We’ve put together a few ideas to inspire you. Curious what chocolate is good for besides eating? Or want to know how to create a real chocolate bath at home? Then keep reading.

Why do chocolate and love go so well together?

As far back as Aztec times, chocolate was already associated with love. And that actually makes sense. The main ingredient of chocolate is cacao, which stimulates the release of endorphins - the happiness hormone - in your brain. The higher the cacao content, the more endorphins are released. Want to give those butterflies an extra boost? Dark chocolate is the way to go.

Valentine’s Day date idea 1: Create a mini date-night experience

Surprise your Valentine with a chocolate tasting. Choose several types of chocolate and pair them with unexpected flavors. Think strawberries, sea salt, chili, orange peel, or a good glass of red wine or espresso. Want to make it extra exciting? Let your Valentine taste blindfolded.

Feeling adventurous? Try these bold combinations:

  • Dark chocolate + extra virgin olive oil + sea salt: Just one drop of high-quality olive oil makes the chocolate flavor linger longer and turns it softer, almost creamy. Unexpectedly delicious.
  • Dark chocolate + blue cheese: Blue cheese adds tension to dark chocolate. The saltiness and creaminess round out the sharpness of the chocolate. Intense, yet beautifully balanced.
  • White chocolate + anchovy: White chocolate is very sweet. A tiny bit of anchovy takes off the edge and adds depth. Sweet and savory in one bite. Unexpected, but surprisingly good.
  • Milk chocolate + white miso: A small amount of miso next to milk chocolate adds depth. The creaminess remains but gains a savory twist. Sweet and rich, with extra character.

Valentine’s Day date idea 2: Let’s make it hot, hot, hot

Life is too short to take everything seriously. Put on some old clothes and challenge your Valentine to a chocolate food fight. Or wear as little as possible, grab a few brushes, and use each other as a living canvas for a chocolate painting. In our Choco Fondue Marie, chocolate stays warm for hours without burning. Perfect if you get distracted in between 😉 Small side note: the moment can be hot, but the chocolate shouldn’t be. Let it cool slightly before you begin.

Valentine’s Day date idea 4: The ultimate recipe for a romantic chocolate bath at home

A bathtub filled with melted chocolate sounds tempting, but it’s mostly sticky and impractical. With cacao and a few smart ingredients, you can create the same warm, luxurious experience - without the mess. Perfect for relaxing together.

Ingredients (for one bath)

  • 100–150 g / 3.5–5.3 oz unsweetened cacao powder, high quality
  • 250 ml / 1 cup (8.5 fl oz) milk or a creamy plant-based alternative
  • A splash of mild, fragrance-free bubble bath
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil such as vanilla or lavender

How to make it

  1. Gently heat the milk and whisk in the cacao powder until smooth and dark.
  2. Fill the bathtub with warm water and add the bubble bath while it’s running.
  3. Slowly pour the cacao mixture into the bath and briefly stir the water by hand.
  4. Set the mood with candlelight and soft music.
  5. Step into the bath together, lean back, and enjoy the warmth and aroma.

Tip: Rinse off briefly afterward to remove any cacao residue and put on something soft and cozy. That’s the perfect ending to the moment.
